a garden school in Beykoz

A Montessori preschool in Beykoz

A small-class school where children aged 2–6 learn at their own pace, with their hands and their curiosity. Our garden has a little stream, vegetable beds and hens; our classrooms have real Montessori materials.

Ages 2–6

The child at the centre, a prepared space, freedom with responsibility

  • Sandpit and toys in the school garden

    Child-centred

Every child works at their own rhythm on what interests them. We shape the programme around the child, not the child around the programme.

  • Bright Montessori classroom with wooden shelves

    Prepared environment

Shelves, tables and sinks at child height. A child never needs an adult just to reach something.

  • Wooden play house and slide in the school garden

    Freedom and responsibility

Choosing is free; putting things back and respecting a friend's work are part of the child's job too.

Montessori at the core, open to other good ideas

The backbone of our teaching is the Montessori method. We also bring into daily life the parts of the Waldorf and Reggio Emilia approaches that are good for children.

  • Montessori

A prepared environment, real materials and work the child chooses. The teacher observes and guides rather than lectures.

  • Waldorf

A calm daily rhythm, time spent in nature, handwork, music and stories. Letting childhood unfold without rushing it.

  • Reggio Emilia

Small projects that grow out of children's own questions; expressing themselves through drawing, building and talking, and documenting their work together.

Classrooms prepared for discovery

In our classrooms, wooden materials sit on open shelves within the child's reach. There is only one of each material, so children learn to wait their turn and respect a friend's work.

  • Child-sized furniture
  • Natural wooden materials
  • Plenty of daylight
  • Self-correcting materials

Small classes, close attention

We deliberately keep our classes small. Fewer children means the teacher can observe each child closely, every child can work at their own pace, and the classroom stays calm. That is exactly the setting in which Montessori learning works best.

  • Each child's interests are followed individually
  • Uninterrupted work with the materials
  • A calm, orderly classroom

The garden is a classroom too

Our garden has a little stream, vegetable beds, a sandpit, a play house and a hen house. Touching the soil, growing plants and caring for animals teach as much as time in the classroom.
